Jan Pronk's Weblog: Talks deadlocked over transition from AU to UN peace force in Darfur

Excerpt from blog entry April 7, 2006 by Jan Pronk, UN special envoy in Sudan:

Talks about a transition from an African Union peace force in Darfur towards a United Nations force are deadlocked. The final decision is in the hands of the Government of Sudan. The transition is meant to protect unarmed civilians against attacks by militia that still seem to be supported by Government forces.
